Romney Wins Nevada
Mitt Romney won Saturday’s Nevada Caucus, getting close to 50% of the vote. Romney’s margin of victory over second place finisher Newt Gingrich was substantial and puts the former Massachusettes Governor firmly in the lead for the 2012 Republican nomination. Congressman Ron Paul finished in third place with former Senator Rick Santorum coming in last.
In his victory speech in Las Vegas, Romney told his supporters; “This isn’t the first time you gave me your vote of confidence, but this time I’m going to take it to the White House.” Gingrich, on the other hand, opted out of the traditional post-results speech to hold a news conference to reiterate his commitment to stay in the race. “We will continue all the way to Tampa,” said the former House Speaker, alluding to the Republican National Convention in late August.
Next on the primary schedule is Minnesota and Colorado, which both hold caucuses this Tuesday (February 7th before a “break” of three solid weeks with no primary contests.
