NBA 2K13

by Oliver Layco

The NBA 2K series has been the leader in basketball simulation since EA’s NBA Live series went down the drain. This year’s iteration in the series, 2K13, is the best one yet. I know I’ve only scratched the surface of all the options this game has to offer. I’ve focused my time for now on My Career mode and it really feels like I’m going through the NBA. I get frustrated when I don’t get enough touches, when I don’t get enough minutes, or happy when my shots are falling. They also link My Career mode with an online facebook game called NBA 2K My Life. With this little mini game you control your player in off court actions. You buy houses, play mini games, and even earn virtual currency you can use in the console game to upgrade your player! I also experimented with Create a Legend mode. That’s basically taking a superstar from today’s league and furthering his legend. As for gameplay it feels much more refined than past years. Shot control is much easier and the way you call out plays is smooth. As for teams included, the major one is the original 1992 Dream Team and the 2012 Olympic team. I know there’s so much more I can do with this game, so for now I am completely satisfied. Oh, and for what it’s worth, Jay-Z was the executive producer of this game and I can see how he influenced it; from the music to the menus a lot of the style is his.

9 out of 10 Bigblue Leaps!!
