What can I say about this one? It’s not a great song. The synthesizers sound dated. The music itself isn’t much, a tiny bit of guitar here, some jovial sleigh bells there, and little else. Sure Paul McCartney’s voice is fantastic, but with the minuscule lyrics this song has it is underused. He even sings ‘Ding Dong, Ding Dong’ a few times. All of this said, I love this song!

“Wonderful Christmas Time” has the uncanny ability to instantly put me into the Christmas spirit. When I hear it I just want to hop up and put up my Christmas tree, sit beside a warm fire, and go sledding. Great song for the mood and festivities. It is a song that is inseparable from Christmas for me, so it’s really hard to determine how highly I’d hold this song without that emotional attachment. But it is the # 9 song on this list.

What’s really interesting is that it is essentially the anti-thesis to John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas”. No political messages or musical complexity, just a good old fashioned Christmas pop song. This song gets bonus points because Paul has always been my favorite Beatle.
