Dead Space 2

by J.D. Cook

The Eye Moment Dead Space is one of the top rated games on this site. It’s follow up is excellent in many ways. The action and controls are better than ever. The story has been expanded and fleshed out with the addition of Gunner Wright as Isaac Clarke’s terrific voice actor.  Sadly Dead Space 2 is much more action oriented than Dead Space. The focus on unsettling sounds and trying to survive a nightmare is replaced by Clarke becoming an action hero ready to run head first into the next crazy battle. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing of course as the action in the game is fantastic and you really feel great being a bad ass. The lone spooky part of the game occurs, ironically enough, in the U.S.G. Ishimura; the setting of the first game. It’s still not as scary as the first game but it has its moments. The moment where you stick a needle in your eye and the exploding baby scene’s are particularly disturbing. As a fan of the series you just have to accept the change of direction in large budget survival horror for the most part and enjoy what little spook factor you get while taking off the limbs of your enemies.
